# Customizable

Custom Attribute are attributes that a user can create to hold and manipulate data to be used throughout HyperSkill. These reside on a Virtual Object.

Custom attributes are attributes you create on a Virtual Object to store data that can be displayed, used, or manipulated throughout the simulation.

## Create a custom attribute

1. Select the Virtual Object and open the **Other** tab of the Inspector.
2. Click **Create Custom Attribute**.
3. Enter a **Variable Name**. Some names are specific and are used for built-in interactions with Special Virtual Objects.
4. Choose an **Attribute Type** from the dropdown (see the table below).
5. Set the **Value**.

| Attribute Type | Description |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Integer | A whole number (...-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3...) |
| Float | A decimal number |
| String | Text |
| True/False | On or off |
| SMEntity | Not supported yet. It appears in the dropdown, but nothing in HyperSkill uses it, so do not choose it. |
| Monitor Display | Allows a Target Image to be used at the located Display Area. |
