# Conditions

Conditions will progress a state machine when its attribute value matches.

Conditions progress a state machine when an attribute value matches. They are checked before a transition or action is allowed to happen. Two condition types are described in this section:

* [Simulation Condition](/hyperskill-studio-authoring/state-machine-reference/conditions/simulation-condition.md): compares an attribute of an entity in the simulation.
* [Account Condition / User Attributes](/hyperskill-studio-authoring/state-machine-reference/conditions/account-condition-user-attributes.md): compares an attribute tied to the user's account.
