Competency models in HyperSkill

Attaching a competency model to a simulation and setting user attributes from it.

In HyperSkill, you can add any deployed competency model to your own simulations. Once a model is added, HyperSkill records how every learner who plays the simulation performs on the model's user attributes. These are the leaf nodes of the model, shown as the green boxes in a competency model diagram (also called observable nodes). Every learner's score on each attribute is rated from 0.0 to 1.0, where 1.0 is the best performance and 0.0 is the worst.

A competency is not the same as a score. A score is displayed to the learner in that session only. A competency is a profile stat built from multiple simulations that measure the same skill. See How scores work.

After a learner session, the data is displayed on the dashboard. See Competency models in the HyperSkill Platform.

Note: The default weighting for all user attributes is equal, meaning every user attribute contributes equally to the final overall performance rating of the learner.

Add a competency model to a simulation

  1. Open the Settings tab in the top bar of the simulation.

  2. Open the Data & Platform tab in settings.

  3. Add the desired competency model in the Competency Models section.

Set user attributes

After adding a competency model, you can change user attributes in three ways:

  • Scenario Flow: click the Set User Attribute State Action under the Actions tab.

  • Rules: click the Set User Attribute option under the then do all of these actions tab.

  • Agents: add a User Attribute output in the Output section of the AI tab.

Note: Your account must have Skillful access to change user attributes through agents.
